This officially marks my second time re-branding the blog, and let me tell you, I never would have thought that I would have changed the blog this many times. (Okay, okay. It’s only been twice, but whatever.) Needless to say, I think I should probably explain *why* I decided to re-brand the blog (again) before getting into the new posts…
When I first started this blog (which I originally dubbed Letters From Sunshine) in my freshman year of college, I thought that I would be blogging about college for the next four years, joining the ranks of all the college bloggers I had admired and looked up to during my college admission process. And I absolutely loved it. I made new friends, learned some incredible skills, and it gave me an amazing job. However, I quickly found myself struggling in terms of content ideas. I hit wall after wall, writer’s block after writer’s block, and no matter what I did, I not only began writing out of ideas for college posts, but also out of interest for it.
That being said, I knew I had outgrown that version of the blog, but I hoped if I pushed myself hard enough, I could get past the writer’s block to re-invest myself in college blogging. That’s why, less than a year into blogging, I decided to do a minor re-brand, changing the blog’s name to “Forever Charlotte Nicole”, transferring hosting services, and switching out some of the categories. My ultimate hope was that a refresh–a new start for the blog–would help re-inspire me and push me to continue blogging. While it did help me re-invest my efforts into the blog, it didn’t take long for that “inspiration” to fully burn out.
And I tried, I really did. I had dozens of ideas for blog posts. They filled up pages in my notebook, my computer, and even my phone’s notes app. But when I sat down to write them, I rarely garnered enough interest in one of those ideas to write a full blog post about it. I was burnt out.
It took me awhile, but after a lot of soul-searching and time away from the blog, I realized that my heart was no longer in college blogging. I loved the friends I had made and the blog I had built, but it no longer made me happy. Blogging about college felt like a chore, just some assignment I had to complete every week, and I hated that. I had no doubt that I still had a passion for blogging, but writing about college didn’t fit me any more. That’s why, after 2 years, I have finally decided to throw in the towel…
and re-brand the blog again.
I knew in my heart what I wanted my new niche to be (travel & blogging), and I was finally ready to jump into it. But just like before, I wanted a re-fresh. But not just a new name this time. I wanted a new theme, a new color scheme, a new style of writing. Everything. My goal was to take everything I had learned about blogging over the past (almost) 2 years and build it up into a new brand for myself, and create the blog I had always dreamed of running.
But now came the hard part: the name. I had already tried something completely abstruse (Letters From Sunshine) and one that incorporated my name (Forever Charlotte Nicole), and neither of them had worked. This time, I wanted a blog name that was versatile enough so I could talk about any “niche” I wanted to, yet would excite me to talk about. I wanted an empowering name that would immediately catch people’s attention.
And after a lot of brainstorming, deliberation, and even a few setbacks, I finally found one that I loved: This Girl Knows It.
It’s a name I chose for several reasons, but mostly because it’s empowering, knowledgeable, and will push me to learn as much as I can about everything I post.
And as for the new niche?
It’s a drastic change (and one that I hope I can keep up with), but writing about a new place, sharing the photos, and sharing the story and history behind the various locations makes me extremely happy, unlike the homework-feeling the majority of my college posts gave me. Because of that, I’d rather focus all of my attention on these new topics.
So thank you to all of my readers and friends. Welcome to the new blog. Throughout the next few weeks I’ll be working out the last of the bugs (cause there’s undoubtedly going to be some on the site with all the changes that happened) and coming out with some travel and blogging posts that I’m super excited for y’all to see.
